Usually online classes are students preparing for English Exams: TOEFL, IELTS, also SAT and ACT testing.

ALSO online studies provide classes for Global Corporate Employees or Business Students.

We ask for at least 2 hours a week and 2 – 3 months prep time, according to abilities.

We use Piaget’s Constructivist Approach, following Bloom’s Taxonomy to create objectives, which are easily understood from US Department of Education Standards.

This is not intended to be the beginning level for all students.  Some will begin with Picture Dictionaries, while others will begin much further into the curriculum.

Day 1 Free Assessment of needs the same for both Global or International Business English

The assessment of needs is a questioning session with the teacher to evaluate what YOU expect, and what I feel you need. IF the student is a minor, the parent is involved in curriculum development as well.  This assessment is 1 hour.

Writing Assessment

Day 2 Will begin your individualized curriculum created by the Needs Assessments and the needs of the student.

EXAMPLE:  Global English

Objectives:

Student will be able to speak about familiar subjects such as,

In the town/city where I live

Where is your favorite holiday location?  Why?

What is your favorite subject in school?  Why?

The student will speak for 3 or 4 minutes on the subject.  During this time, the teacher listens and takes notes.  The teacher then evaluates the speaking and asks student to repeat words or phrases.  The teacher will use the webcam or ichat to show the student the placement of their tongue/shape of mouth in order to pronounce the word in English.

Objective:

Student will be able to listen to the teacher speak on a subject analyzing what she has said and how she has said it, writing questions or words they do not understand or know the meaning. The student will then answer questions about the subject.

Possible subject matter:

Private schools versus Public schools in the US

English as the World Language

The role a teacher plays in education

Reading Assessment: Students who are long-term (3 mo – 6 mo) will be asked to buy a textbook, chosen by the teacher relative to student needs.

Object:

Student will be able to read a passage.  Comprehend and talk about the material read.  The teacher will entice critical thinking skills by asking the student to take the information further from prior knowledge.

Day 3 Writing Skills and Vocabulary

Opening Sentence:  Grab audience attention.

Body:  1 or more sentences.  Explains, describes, or

Discuss the issue of the paragraph.

Concluding Sentence:  Wraps the issue up. Finalizing the subject.

Practice writing a paragraph

Vocabulary:  Grade level or Business terms and phrases

Objective:  The student will pronounce the words; write them in a Vocabulary Bank that will be kept the length of the course.  The students will use dictionaries and thesauri to find the meaning, as well as synonyms and antonyms of the word.

The words will be discussed.  The student should come back to day 3 with the words in sentences.

For reference:  If a student begins with no English at all, it should take at least 7 months of devotion to be able to speak English at a beginning level.
